Clove At First Sight

The name clove is derived from the Latin clavus, which means nail, aptly describing the round head and short stem of the clove bud. The clove has been used traditionally for thousands of years for its numerous aromatherapeutic, medicinal, culinary and decorative uses.

One of the most noteworthy and prized qualities of Clove Essential Oil is its tremendous level of antioxidants On the ORAC* rating scale.  Clove takes the lead with a score of over 10 million!  Blueberries, one of the highest-rated ORAC foods, have a score of 2400, and that’s not small, yet just one drop of Clove oil provides more than 400 times that amount.

Clove mixes well with Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Orange, Palmarosa, Rose, Sandalwood, Tangerine, Tea Tree, and Ylang Ylang.  Maximum concentration for topical use of Clove Essential Oil mixed with a carrier oil should be 0.5%  (to achieve, mix one drop of Clove Essential Oil in 2 teaspoons of a carrier oil).

Aromatherapy

Diffusing Clove Essential Oil into the air helps to minimize airborne germs.  The spicy aroma has also been found to reduce irritability, and assist memory recall.  For a cheering winter blend, try mixing Clove, Cassia, and Orange oils in a diffuser or add drops to water in a spray bottle.

General Health
